In the present world where ills like communalism, terrorism, casteism, corruption, gender inequality, and fundamentalism still constitute the 'cultural ethos' of society, the need for value education and the role it can play in social transformation cannot be overemphasized. In India, despite recognizing the importance of education in making children conscious of the value of social justice, democracy, equality, secularism, tolerance, and fraternity, most schools are unable to internalize these values into their curriculum.
